This month, I am kicking off a monthly feature blog in which I will travel to one of our great Cocoa Beach area attractions and describe my experience! We have several CVB member attractions ranging from helicopter and biplane rides, to airboat rides and even a round of mini golf complete with feeding alligators!
This month, I will be describing my experience with Florida Air Tours, conveniently located at the Merritt Island Airport! Florida Air Tours has been in business since 2010 and is run by CVB member, Mark Grainger.
I must admit, the idea of going up in a 70 plus year old WWII biplane made me nervous at first, but upon meeting our seasoned pilot Steve and going through the preliminary instructional measures, I was immediately put at ease by their safety precautions and professionalism.
Once I put on my stylish head gear and loaded up into the plane, we were on our way! A quick trip down the runway and we were up in the air before I knew it! I was immediately thrilled with aerial views of the Banana River, manatees, the Cocoa Beach Pier, sunbathers on Cocoa Beach’s pristine shoreline and a great view of our bustling Port!
We landed in a field next to the hanger with ease. The best part? The whole experience was filmed! My husband and I now have this memory on DVD to relive and show family and friends.
I would recommend this experience to anyone and everyone! If you are a true thrill seeker, Florida Air Tours has an option to add on aerobatics, in which the skilled pilot will take you through a series of barrel-rolls and loops. While we didn’t go this route (yet, at least) we still received the thrill we were looking for and had an amazing time!
Florida Air Tours also offers helicopter tours of the area at their new Port Canaveral location, and I look forward to making that experience a future feature blog! On your next visit to the Cocoa Beach area, or even if you’re a local, make sure you call and reserve a ride with Florida Air Tours!
