Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce CVB Touts Space Coast Seafood

Thu, May 29, 2014 at 10:45AM

Florida, a peninsula boasting the second most coast line in the United States, must have local seafood everywhere you turn, right? The unknown truth is commercial seafood is becoming a rare commodity in the state of Florida.  Wild Ocean Seafood, a Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) member, is one of only two commercial docks remaining in Port Canaveral, along with a retail market and facility in Titusville where the company hand processes seafood chemical free.

Seafood was the first commercial industry in Port Canaveral where the bulkhead would be lined with commercial fishing boats rafted several deep.  In 2014, the only places to unload a commercial shrimp boat ranging in length from 70 to 100 feet on Florida’s East coast are Port Canaveral, the Jacksonville area or all the way south to the Keys.  It is remarkable that Brevard County has two commercial docks in the highly diverse Port Canaveral!

According to co-owner and incoming chair of the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce Jeanna Merrifield, Wild Ocean Seafood prides itself in offering as much domestically harvested seafood as possible.  Working tirelessly to protect the domestic seafood supply for the American consumer, in particular the non-boating public, Wild Ocean Seafood hosts numerous educational opportunities each year. These include, but are not limited to, the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce, tours, partnering with Port Canaveral through Embark, local schools, tastings, farmers markets, festivals and much more. Much energy is spent both locally and federally to participate in the regulation process and raise the awareness with state and federal leadership and Brevard County is fortunate to have this local seafood still available in Port Canaveral.

The Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce embraces businesses from large to small and there are a multitude of opportunities to promote, educate and be a part of your community through the Chamber and its CVB. The Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce is YOUR Chamber too!
