The Evans Center Farmers Market mission is to improve the health of our residents while providing a venue where local farmers, producers, crafters and artisans can come together to provide a variety of fresh produce and related products directly to our residents and visitors . We have a committee working hard to bring this initiative to our community and we are hoping you could be a part of this exciting season.
Evans Center is an economic development project focused on healthy living and jobs. It will host a community market that sells healthy foods and provides on-the-job training for neighborhood teens. Evans Center will be critical for the Powell/Driskell Heights neighborhoods that it will serve. These communities are located in a USDA designated food desert.
An asbestos-riddled building has been demolished to make way for the 6,000 square foot community facility, to include 3,200 square feet of market space. We have gathered an impressive development team, including resident leaders, the county largest commercial builder, lenders, the city of Palm Bay, and the Bayfront Community Redevelopment Agency. Site and building plans are completed and we have currently raised 46% of the funds needed to break ground.
The Evans Center Farmers Market is committed to providing immediate access to healthy locally grown produce and related products as we prepare for the construction and opening of our brick and mortar location.
The Farmers Market will be held every 2nd Saturday from 9am-3pm. The market will be located at the Evans Center lot at 1361 Florida Ave. NE Palm Bay, FL 32905.
The Evans Center lot is an ideal location for a Farmers Market. It is centrally located in the Powell/Driskell Heights neighborhoods. The Florida Department of Public Health and WIC District building is conveniently located on University Blvd. less than a mile from Evans Center Lot. Lipscomb Park, which host regular sports and family events on Saturdays, serves as a main traffic thoroughfare. The Powell/Driskell Heights neighborhoods are home to 5,000+ residents living within a one mile radius of the Evans Center Lot. It is expected that market attendance will be high given the large number of potential market consumers and the convenient and highly visible location of the market.
