Here at the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Convention & Visitors Bureau, we greet an average of over 700 visitors a month! CVB staff alone cannot greet that many tourists to provide them with the valuable information they need, or more importantly, promote/refer our valued CVB member businesses to them.
The CVB could not operate without its amazing volunteers who spend their precious time here at our Visitor Center in Cape Canaveral greeting our guests with a smile and a helping hand. According to the Independent Sector, the value of a volunteer hour in the State of Florida for the year of 2013 (the most recent data available) is $21.24.The CVB currently boasts 17 different volunteers, all taking their time to be the first friendly face our tourists see as they enter the center.
Let’s do the math together, shall we? Each volunteer works a 3 ½ hour shift. For the month of August, we have 13 different volunteers assisting us. Of those 13, five volunteers have a weekly shift this month. Using one volunteer as an example:
4 shifts X 3.5 hours each = 14 hours worked
14 hours worked X $21.24/ hour = $297.36 per month
If you use this same formula and apply it to each of the five volunteers we have working a weekly shift this month, it is a whopping grand total of over $1,480! This number no where near captures the true worth of all of our volunteers, including those with bi-weekly shifts or those that fill in the gaps in our schedule, but I felt it important to highlight the value of the important work these individuals do.
The Cocoa Beach area is fortunate to have such dedicated and professional volunteers to provide our visitors with the ultimate customer service experience, and the CVB is proud to be made up of such a wonderful team! When you are visiting on your next vacation, or even if you are a local, please stop in and see us at 8501 Astronaut Boulevard, Suite 4, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920. We are open 7 days a week from 9AM-4PM!
